The fair and balanced FOX news has created a new affiliate that they're calling FOCKS news. I have been hired as their new investigative journalist.
For my first FOCKS report, I have been doing some investigative work into where our great hero, John McCain, stands on the issues.
I was surprised to find, despite his being a former POW, that he is really a radical liberal who wants socialized medicine.
Everyone knows we have a health care crisis. The premiums keep going up and many experts speculate that the main cause of this is the burden of caring for the poor people and minorities, who don't take care of themselves and get sick too much. In addition, the US health care industry, which is a model of bureaucracy around the world, has to bear the burden of doing all of the research, creating innovative new technologies, and making lifesaving drugs. So these companies have to pass on the burden of these costs to consumers, especially because many of these companies have a coveted slot on the Fortune500 which might be jeopardized if their record profits drop.
Some have suggested one solution: dropping those who are being irresponsible with their health and lifestyles. If the insurance companies didn't have to take care of African-Americans, who are more prone to heart disease and diabetes, and the poor in general, who are malnourished and also smoke and drink, then the rest of Americans would benefit from a drop in our premiums.
This makes sense, but does the Republican candidate agree? What does presidential candidate McCain, our greatest war hero, propose? I took a look at the outline of his plan for healthcare on johnmcain.com:
We want a system of health care in which everyone can afford and acquire the treatment and preventative care they need. Health care should be available to all and not limited by where you work or how much you make.
There are currently 47 million Americans without health insurance -- people who are working in low skill jobs, or not working at all, or who would just rather pocket the money than purchase insurance. McCain, who refused early release as a POW, suggests we should make health care "available to all," which sounds like a pretty big job given the number of uninsured in the country. Not only that, but it goes directly counter to the suggestion of the experts, who state that the only way to lower costs is to stop covering the poor and the dark-skinned. However, McCain not only wants to expand coverage, he also wants to make it easier for you to keep it:
Americans need insurance that follows them from job to job. They want insurance that is still there if they retire early and does not change if they take a few years off to raise the kids.
Is this sounding familiar to you yet? There is only one kind of insurance that would cover an extra 47 million and be fully portable. It's called Hillary-care. It's what they do in socialist countries like France and England, where the tax rate can be as high as 50%!
Why does John McCain, the maverick, want to raise our taxes like a communist? Because he believes that government is the best way to solve our health care crisis. He argues strongly for getting governors involved in managing health care:
As President, John McCain will work with governors to develop a best practice model that states can follow - a Guaranteed Access Plan or GAP - that would reflect the best experience of the states to ensure these patients have access to health coverage. One approach would establish a nonprofit corporation that would contract with insurers to cover patients who have been denied insurance and could join with other state plans to enlarge pools and lower overhead costs. There would be reasonable limits on premiums, and assistance would be available for Americans below a certain income level.
A "nonprofit corporation" -- like the federal government? Sounds like McCain, our greatest veteran, has flip-flopped again, into a raving liberal! Assistance for low-income families? How about helping out those middle class people between the incomes of $300,000 and $4.9 million who are really hurting right now? Some of these middle class families are having to fire their illegal immigrant household staff and sell one of their Hum-vees in order to make up the difference.
It will be interesting to watch what this news does the polls for McCain, who was tortured as a POW. Will he lose the support of his conservative base for this complete 180 on the issue of healthcare? Or will concerns about Obama's distaste for ice cream keep them wondering if he's a true American, which will keep many patriots firmly on McCain's side.
